An important factor for many people who move to Spain is the
national healthcare system. In Spain the actual health care is
very similar to the UK and is available to all European citizens.
If you are of retirement age or over, then you are even entitled
to free health care in Spain. The public health
system is free or low cost if you pay social security (families
and retirees are also included).
Even if you are under the
public health care system it is still advisable to have private health insurance in order to skip the
waiting lists and receive treatment quickly. The most popular
private health plans are Adeslas and Sanitas. To give you an idea, the
average monthly medical premium for a 30-year old male starts
around €38 per month; for females it’s a bit a higher at roughly
€50 per month.
